Mendelssohn's Oak, Burnham Beeches ancient woodland
An old oak tree in a part of Burnham Beeches woods known as Mendelssohn's Slope. This area of woodland is where the composer Felix Mendelssohn would come to seek tranquility and it is believed was the inspiration behind his overture A Midsummer Night's Dream.
